Surgical Research (SR) is dedicated to the open dissemination and rigorous discussion of research spanning general and specialized surgery, consistent with the journal's Publication Ethics commitment to scientifically sound, clinically relevant scholarship.

SR welcomes original research, reviews, and case reports covering:
- General and gastrointestinal surgery, including bariatric procedures
- Rare and complex surgical case presentations
- Surgical management of infectious and parasitic conditions
- Perioperative and postoperative complications
- Surgical technique innovation and outcomes
- Emergency and acute surgical conditions, including mesenteric ischemia
- Retroperitoneal and abdominal pathology
- Surgical implications of systemic disease, including infectious disease such as COVID-19
Who Should Submit
The journal welcomes contributions from general surgeons, subspecialty surgeons, researchers, general practitioners, educators, and trainees engaged in surgical research and clinical care, consistent with the manuscript types described in the Author Guidelines.
Scope of Contributions
SR accepts a broad range of article types — original research, review articles, case reports, mini reviews, editorials, short communications, and letters to the editor — provided each submission falls genuinely within the subject areas above and meets the journal's standards for scientific and surgical rigor, as evaluated through the Peer Review Process.
What Falls Outside Our Scope
Manuscripts addressing purely non-surgical medical management of a condition, without a substantive surgical intervention or technique focus, are generally better suited to a dedicated internal medicine or specialty-specific journal, and authors are encouraged to consider journal fit carefully before submission.
