About the Journal

Surgical Research (SR) is dedicated to publishing rigorous, peer-reviewed research spanning general and specialized surgery — from surgical technique and outcomes to complex and rare case presentations across surgical subspecialties.

Surgical practice depends on both technical skill and a robust evidence base documenting outcomes, complications, and emerging approaches across the full range of surgical disciplines, including cases too rare or complex to be captured in large trials but genuinely valuable to practicing surgeons. SR exists to support open dissemination of research and case-based evidence that advances surgical practice globally.

SR publishes work spanning original research, technique commentary, and detailed case reports — reflecting genuine ongoing coverage of topics such as laparoscopic bariatric surgery, rare retroperitoneal cyst presentations, unusual parasitic infestation in the gallbladder, and COVID-19-associated acute mesenteric ischemia, based on the journal's actual published content.

Editorial Leadership

The journal is led by Editor-in-Chief George F. Babcock, PhD, supported by an Editorial Board of surgeons and researchers with relevant expertise in surgical research.
