Surgical Research (SR) is committed to the principle that research on surgical technique, outcomes, and complex case presentations should be freely and immediately accessible to the widest possible audience — surgeons, clinicians, and researchers alike.

Immediate Open Access

All articles published in SR are made freely available online immediately upon publication, with no subscription, registration, or paywall restricting access, and no embargo period (see Publisher Policies).

No Access Barriers

Readers do not need to create an account, pay a fee, or obtain permission to read, download, or share published SR articles — important given that surgeons managing rare or complex presentations, such as the case reports this journal regularly publishes, may need rapid access to relevant clinical precedent.

Licensing

All open-access content is published under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License (CC BY 4.0), allowing readers to copy, distribute, and build upon the published work, provided appropriate credit is given (see Copyright & Licensing).

Alignment with International Open Access Standards

SR's open access model is consistent with the principles set out in the Budapest Open Access Initiative (BOAI).
