Aim & Scope

Anesthesiology (AOJ) is dedicated to the open dissemination and rigorous discussion of research spanning anesthesiology and perioperative medicine, consistent with the journal's Publication Ethics commitment to scientifically sound, clinically relevant scholarship.

Core Subject Areas

AOJ welcomes original research, reviews, and case reports covering:

  • General, regional, and neuraxial anesthesia
  • Perioperative patient safety and outcomes
  • Pain management and analgesia
  • Critical care and intensive care medicine related to perioperative practice
  • Pediatric and obstetric anesthesia
  • Anesthetic pharmacology
  • Airway management
  • Postoperative complications and recovery

Who Should Submit

The journal welcomes contributions from anesthesiologists, perioperative physicians, critical care specialists, researchers, educators, and trainees engaged in anesthesiology research and clinical practice, consistent with the manuscript types described in the Author Guidelines.

Scope of Contributions

AOJ accepts a broad range of article types — original research, review articles, case reports, mini reviews, editorials, short communications, and letters to the editor — provided each submission falls genuinely within the subject areas above and meets the journal's standards for scientific and clinical rigor, as evaluated through the Peer Review Process.

What Falls Outside Our Scope

Manuscripts addressing purely surgical technique without a substantive anesthetic or perioperative focus are generally better suited to a dedicated surgical journal, and authors are encouraged to consider journal fit carefully before submission.
