Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
  • The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
  • The submission file is in OpenOffice, Microsoft Word, or RTF document file format.
  • Where available, URLs for the references have been provided.
  • The text is single-spaced; uses a 12-point font; employs italics, rather than underlining (except with URL addresses); and all illustrations, figures, and tables are placed within the text at the appropriate points, rather than at the end.
  • The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines.

Author Guidelines

Scope

Before submitting, please review CSMM's Aims and Scope to confirm your manuscript fits within the journal's coverage of cancer biology, molecular oncology, and translational cancer research. CSMM accepts Original Research Articles, Review Articles, Case Reports, and Short Communications.

Authorship

Authorship must meet ICMJE authorship criteria: substantial contribution to the work's conception, design, analysis, or interpretation; drafting or critically revising the manuscript; final approval of the version to be published; and agreement to be accountable for all aspects of the work.

Manuscript Preparation

  • Manuscripts must be written in clear, grammatically correct English
  • Manuscripts must be submitted in a form suitable for double-blind review, with identifying author information provided separately from the main manuscript file
  • Authors are encouraged to provide an ORCID iD for the corresponding author (and other authors, where possible)
  • Standard structure: Title, Abstract (structured or unstructured as appropriate to article type), Keywords, Introduction, Materials and Methods, Results, Discussion, Conclusion, References

Required Statements

Every submission must include:

  • A Conflict of Interest / Competing Interests statement
  • A Data Availability Statement
  • A Funding statement, disclosing all sources of financial support
  • An Ethical Approval and Informed Consent statement, for manuscripts involving human participants or animal subjects
  • An AI Use Declaration, disclosing any generative AI tool used in preparing the manuscript

Originality

All manuscripts are screened using iThenticate prior to peer review, per the journal's Plagiarism Policy.

Peer Review

All submissions undergo double-blind peer review by a minimum of two independent reviewers. The typical time to first editorial decision is 12–14 weeks.

Copyright and Licensing

Upon acceptance, published articles are made available under a Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License (CC BY 4.0); authors retain copyright, and no copyright transfer agreement is required.

Article Processing Charges

CSMM applies an Article Processing Charge based on the corresponding author's country income classification and article type, with full waivers available where applicable. See the Article Processing Charges and Waiver Policy for full details.

References

Authors should cite datasets, software, and prior work accurately and completely, including DOIs where available.

Authors who publish with Cancer Studies and Molecular Medicine (CSMM) retain copyright of their work. No copyright transfer to the journal or publisher is required. Authors grant CSMM a non-exclusive license to publish, distribute, and archive the article in its published form.

All articles published in CSMM are made freely available under a Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License (CC BY 4.0). This license permits unrestricted use, distribution, and reproduction in any medium, provided the original author(s) and source are properly credited.

Under this license, authors and any third party are free to:

  • Read, download, and share the article for free
  • Copy, distribute, and transmit the article in any medium or format
  • Adapt, remix, transform, and build upon the article for any purpose, including commercially
  • Reuse figures, tables, and text in future work, with appropriate citation

Author Rights

This license does not restrict the author(s)' right to:

  • Post the published article on personal websites, institutional repositories, or preprint servers, with a link to the published version
  • Enter into separate, non-exclusive licensing arrangements for distribution of the published version, provided proper acknowledgment of first publication in CSMM is retained

Third-Party Material

Authors are responsible for obtaining permission to reuse any third-party material (e.g., figures, tables, extended quotations) within their manuscript that is not their own original work and is not already available under a compatible open license. Proper attribution must be given in all cases.

No Copyright Transfer Agreement

CSMM does not require authors to sign a copyright transfer agreement. Submission and acceptance of a manuscript constitutes the author's agreement to publish under the terms of the CC BY 4.0 license described above.
