Anesthesiology (AOJ) is a fully open-access journal. Authors retain copyright of their published work, and all articles are published under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License (CC BY 4.0), unless otherwise explicitly stated for a specific article.

What This Means for Authors

Authors retain full copyright ownership of their published article. By submitting to AOJ, authors grant the journal a license to publish the work and grant all readers the right to copy, distribute, transmit, and adapt the work — including for commercial purposes — provided that appropriate credit is given to the original author(s) and the original publication is properly cited, consistent with the journal's Citation Policy.

What This Means for Readers

Articles published in AOJ may be freely read, downloaded, copied, distributed, and reused by anyone, without requiring permission from the author or publisher, subject only to the requirement of proper attribution under the terms of the CC BY 4.0 license (see also Open Access Policy).

Third-Party Content

Where a manuscript includes material from a third-party source (such as an intraoperative image, radiographic figure, table, or extended quotation) that is not covered by the author's own copyright, it is the author's responsibility to obtain any necessary permissions prior to submission and to clearly indicate the source and licensing status of that material within the manuscript, consistent with the Author Guidelines.

Self-Archiving Rights

Because content is published under CC BY 4.0, authors retain full rights to deposit their published article in institutional or subject repositories at any time, without embargo — see the journal's Repository & Self-Archiving Policy for full detail.

Requests Beyond Standard Licensing Terms
